My Furniture Dilemma

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

As I was cleaning my sofa the other day, I noticed a tear on the piping of my living room chair. The first thing that comes to my mind is ok, which one of the boys did it? So I ask my boys "Did one of you accidently make a hole on the furniture"? First thing my youngest says is "No not me mommy" following by my oldest just a straight "No" he's cool like that. As a mom you know if they are lying well most of the time ,so I said "Ok thats fine".  I then proceed to inspect my chair and sofa like I was on a mission and what do you know I start to see more tears. Coincidence? I don't think so!

Need I mention my sofa is only 2 and a half years old and I paid $$$ for them, so seeing them already rotting kinda makes me upset. I know furniture now-a-days don't last but I do expect them to last at least 5 years . So I give Kincaid a call to let them know of my situation since I have a protection warranty against these type of mishaps ,but the manager was unavailable . Now I sit and wait for him to give me a call back.

These past few days I got to thinking are there any sofas that last and are made of good quality without spending an arm and a leg? I've gone through my fair share of furniture peices throughout the years and honestly I can't remember if I ever had furniture that has lasted. Long are the days when you bought furniture you knew was going to last you a lifetime. Now you'll be lucky if things last you more than 5 years or in my case 2 years.

I will say this, one way or another this sofa will be replaced. Okay I'm done!

  1. I am in the furniture business and I don't know that this looks like a fabric defect. Take the cushion in to the store and ask to speak to management. Fabric is not covered under any warranties- when you speak to store management, I believe they will tell you this. Depending on the manufacturer, warranties vary and may only cover certain things, such as mechanisms and frames. I would see if the fabric is still current and have new cushion covers ordered. It shouldn't be too expensive for you. Can you give me the manufacturer name and type and grade of fabric ? Another alternative would be to have the store's in-house repair person try to repair the slits and tears. That may be a lesser cost that replacing the cushion covers. :-) Sue

  4. Thanks for the advice Sue! Manager actually gave me a call back and said the same thing you said. Have to wait for another call back. Just frustrating when you spend x amount of money only to last you a couple years, know what I mean?

Oh well, I'll just have to see what they say and go from there.

    P.S I'll post an update!
