My Newest Obsession

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Good Morning! Hope everyone had an awesome holiday weekend. I want to thank you all for the birthday wishes. It totally made my day to see those lovely comments : ) Thank you!

So on to this post - Ever since tackling my first succulent centerpiece, I've been searching
high and low for a house plant to put in the corner of my kitchen.

Because of my lack of green thumb skills, I shamefully admit to only owning silk plants in the past but not no more. My latest obsession seems to be of a little plant called Fiddle Leaf Fig. I dig it!

You may have heard of this tree, after all it's very popular and has been popping up all over the place. Given their current popularity I can see why people love this plant - its sculptural shape and large waxy leaves makes them eye appealing.

So over the weekend I made a call to a local nursery and luckily they had only one left. I had them hold it for me just incase there was someone else as eager as I was to get there paws on it. I was fully prepared to squabble someone but thankfully I didn't have to. Ha!

Once we got home I stimulated and straightened out the roots and repotted it into a ceramic pot. It is recommended you use a pot that's 3 times it's size as these babies are known to grow over 11 feet tall.

I'm quite smitten by my new plant. I may just have to purchase some more in the event they become available and ahem.... it survives. Anyone else in love with em' as much as I am?

  10. I agree, Fiddle Leaf Fig is a cute name for a plant :-) I actually hadn't really noticed it popping up everywhere, but I bet that now that I know what it is, I'll be seeing it everywhere! It's really a nice looking pant - love the big leaves :-) Fingers crossed that yours grows up to be big & strong :-)

  14. I've been wanting a Fiddle Leaf Fig! I'm so jealous you got one. I read somewhere that they are hard to take care of, so it stopped me from buying one. I can't wait to hear your thoughts once you've owned it for awhile.

  17. I too have become obsessed with this plant. I was thinking of getting a {dare I say?} a fake one lol I want one for our river house and there is no way I can take care of a live one when I am not there that often. I wonder if they look as good fake as they do real...I might change out one of my plants at home for one of these, at least I can try to see if I can keep it alive. I don't have a green thumb either. Love yours! What a great price too!
