Confessions Of A Kitchen DIY

Friday, February 24, 2012

It all started with brand new appliances, from there I inadvertently surprised Matt with the refacing of our kitchen cabinets. I originally had planned to do them next year but let's face it nothing ever goes according to plan.

Our originated plans looked a little something like this :

- Purchase new appliances

Yep that was it! Looks promising and easy, huh? Not quite so!

Well 3 mths. later we are still here and our kitchen looks a little something like this, please excuse the lousy lighting. I really need to invest in a good camera.
In Progress

So let's go over on what has changed - Where do I begin? Let's start here:

- Used Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations then quickly realized maybe it wasn't the best solution, at that point we had only done our center island.

- Instead we opted to buy new espresso cabinets doors and install them ourselves again this in only the island need I mention they are still tucked and boxed up in the corner.

- Made a not so easy decision on to replace our kitchen cabinets or save money and paint them ourselves. The most logical and smartest thing to do was to keep them and so we did.

- Our diy version consisted of priming, spray painting the rest of our cherry cabinets yep I said cherry before I get some serious backlash on why I would want to paint over cherry cabinets a simple answer would be "cause we didn't like them" there I said it.

What still needs to be done is:

- Island
- Over the refrigerator cabinet
- Add a couple of painted doors
- Add the rest of the door knobies which they just arrived
- Tile our backsplash
- And lastly repaint our kitchen walls

Can I get a pat on the back cause this girl needs some serious energy and motivation to keep going!  But on a good note Matt and I have surpassed the most challenging parts of this revamp.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

Hello Hello! I'm back today to feature a talented blogger. Every Wednesday I will be featuring other bloggers crafts, tips and (or) tutorials, so be sure to check back weekly cause you just may see one of your inventives being featured.

So let's get started, shall we. I'm proud to introduce Brandi from Don't Disturb This Groove. Last week Brandi shared a beautiful felt pillow inspired by a photo of a dahlia flower. She especially made this pillow for her sister's birthday. Just look at the detail, I imagine it took hours to complete. The girl has some serious skills creating these amazing felt pillows, don't you agree?

If you want to see more of her creations she has done in the past be sure to visit her blog.

What a wonderful and thoughtful gift Brandi! I'm sure your sister loved it as much as we did. Thank you for sharing. If you would like to be featured on Cre8ive Motives Blog email me at  Now I'm off to do some cleaning, a mom's job is never done. Have a good one!

Let's Talk Accent Tables

Monday, February 20, 2012

Good afternoon everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. So yesterday we got some snow here in VA.Winter here has not been so white in our neck of the woods. As of yesterday we have gotten a total of 3 snowy days.... if that. Honey, I think it's time to break out the shovel!

So enough about the wintery mix lets talk accent tables. I don't know about you but they are one of my favorite accents (pun intended) to use when I am decorating or rearranging my home. You will see them just about in every room in mi casa. They are a great way to enhance any living space in your home. Aside from balancing the look of a family room or your bedroom they also serve great purposes for, beverages, lamps, vases and my favorite - books/ magazines.

Some of my favorite styles that have caught my eye are:

Button Tufting Design Ceramic Garden Stool

Garden stools have been all the rage in blogland and in the magazines. Isn't this pop of teal chinese garden stool beautiful? And those cute buttons make it even more eye pleasing.

Jules Accent Table

Crate and Barrel is one of those stores that makes my heart skip a beat whenever I see their stuff. It's no wonder I've been stalking this lovely gold tripod table since it first came out. I'm just waiting for the perfect time to buy it, meaning when it goes on sale!

Reclaimed Table

Normally I don't ever buy natural wood but this reclaimed table from Room & Board is quite interesting. Loving the shape and texture it has. After seeing this, I think I may have been converted to natural wood.

Metal Wrapped Side Table

West Elm is by far one of my favorite stores to shop online. This antique metal three legged table has my name written all over it , oh and did I mention it's on sale. Can't be that!

Metal Round Table

Mothology , a new store to me that somehow I stumbled across, has some really awesome unique decor- like these adorable round nickel plated tables. They come in 3 different sizes so I'm sure you'll find that "right size" to add to your space.

Any tables that you currently admire? I would love to hear your thoughts. Have a great evening!
